Music for Dementia 2020
Making music accessible for everyone living with dementia by 2020
Music for Dementia 2020 is a national campaign to help improve the quality of life for people living with dementia through music.
Music can alleviate anxiety, agitation and depression, it brings people together, supports mental health, communication and self-expression and how care is both offered and received.
Sadly, not everyone living with dementia has regular access to
music and this has to change. We want people living with dementia and those caring for them to be able to access a range of music offerings, from playlists and performances to interactive, participatory music making and music therapy. It’s about understanding the benefits that music can have on dementia and ensuring that people can find the right music for them, at the right time and in the right ways.
The www.musicfordementia2020.com website was launched at the beginning of the year and is a hub of information promoting the power of music in dementia care. It details the benefits, outlines the different music offers available and gives clear advice on how to make music everyday part of life for people living with dementia. We are working hard to grow our ‘musical map’ showing the amazing music offers available across the UK and this will be made live in the coming months.
What types of musical activity can you do?
How can you help the campaign?
But most of all sing from the rooftops that ‘music is a necessity for people living with dementia and we need to act now.’
